Fetching water from the nearest bore hole.
Mission: To bring hope to the destitute
Hope for a better life on earth, as well as hope for the eternal life after death.

John 3:16 For God loved the world so much that he gave His only Son so that everyone who believes in Him may not die but have eternal life.

In the southern province of Zambia lives a people hungry for knowledge – they have no books, no libraries, no magazines, no newspapers, no television, no hope and no vision for the future. We need your help to really make a lasting and sustainable impact on these people’s lives.

One of the ways you can help is to visit this area and to enrich their lives with your knowledge. Please contact us so that we can arrange such a visit. Anything which you can do and enjoy doing you can teach or train these people to do. For example:
Needlework, woodwork, science, mathematics, bookkeeping, gardening especially food gardens, fish farming, animal husbandry especially cattle, pigs and chickens, knowledge of herbs, crop alternation and organic fertilizers (presently they are slash and burn farmers) soccer, netball, athletics, music, bible study and any other arts or crafts.

The people in this area are mostly Tonga. They speak Chitonga, but most men and some of the women and can speak English. Although they are very poor they are very intelligent and hungry for knowledge. Most people in this area are sustenance farmers. They live in rural villages and cultivate maize and peanut fields. They also own cattle, pigs, goats and chickens that all graze on communal land. This area has no modern conveniences e.g. No electricity or running water. There are very few boreholes and children have to walk many kilometers to fetch water.

There are no nursery or secondary schools in this area, only primary schools up till grade 7. Most schools lack basic facilities e.g. Tables, chairs, books and blackboards. The children often sit on logs and stones because they have no chairs.

Each school usually only has one teacher for approximately 250 children. The children attend school in sessions. Some in the morning and others in the afternoon. Some children walk for +- 10 Km’s to get to school and often have chores to do at home before and after school.

The Tonga people are very well organized. All villages are members of village area groups. From each village area group a representative serves on the Resource Council board. Men, women and children with a special interest in a particular field e.g. Needlework, Woodwork or athletics come from different village area groups to attend teaching / training sessions. They return to their villages as “experts” in their field to spread their knowledge to the other people in their area. Through this way knowledge is spread even to the most remote village.

This project to help and uplift these people was started by a medical doctor, Braam van Aardt and his wife Corrie who is a veterinary surgeon. They were touched by the poverty and need in this area and decided to make a difference – and so can you.

Hope Through Jesus is a non profit organization which has no other expenses except helping the people in Zambia and doing some community work in South Africa. In South Africa this organization is involved in distributing food parcels to jobless men standing on street corners, hoping for a job. By midday thousands of them are still waiting mostly without hope and without food. These are men who want to work but cannot find a job.

They stand with one finger pointing in the air, which indicates that they are looking for a job. The food parcels are to give them something to eat and to give them some ray of hope.

We need your help to make a difference.

How can you help?

Through encouragement, sharing of your knowledge with the Tonga people or by donating any of the following: Non electric sewing machines and type writers, books, exercise books, pens etc. Clothes, tents, chairs, sport equipment especially soccer balls and soccer clothes. Medical equipment for the clinics. We also need an off road mini bus to transport the villagers in Zambia to the training facility as well as to the nearest hospital which is 100 Km away. Financial Donations can also be made.

The people at Kanimbwa is aproximately 40km from the nearest clinic. The children was not even vaccinated against measels.

Please write to us at info@hopethroughjesus.org for more information.

Medical doctors and teachers to do communal work on a short or long term basis are needed. A water drill to drill more boreholes for villages is needed.
